AVIDYĀ 無明
2016

Avidyā is a series of self-portraits to re-examine and reshape the impermanence and non-self doctrines about physical and virtual reality through 3D scanning.

This work explores the formation and transformation of portrait and correspondence identity through digital means. The 3D scanning involves both observation and temporal experiences, and the scanned results project different experiences of image formation and data collection. The digital data collected each time can be regarded as part of identity formation and creation. In the process of image generation, the gain and loss of data and fragmentized images allow us to re-examine the formation and cognition of identity, and the function and notion of self-portrait.
